By the Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council The section in this proposal that refers to the need for change convinces me that the time is right to take decisive and radical action. I am aware of the reasons for our previous bid being turned down. Since the last bid was submitted the political leadership in North East Lincolnshire has changed. The new administration recognises that deep rooted difficulties require ambitious and thoughtful responses. This proposal that seeks £152.2M to transform our secondary schools, is the largest that this Council has planned. I am acutely aware of both our strengths and limitations in our capacity to deliver on this area-wide and large-scale project. The Council will buy in the necessary expertise to guarantee successful delivery. This administration recognises that getting our educational provision right is fundamental to the achievement of all the other Council priorities. Education is the means by which we will increase our community capacity and confidence. Whilst this is necessarily a long-run process, this administration sees the urgency of grasping the nettle now. A good administration plans for the future as well as addresses the here and now. The first priority in the Council’s Education Development Plan is to develop excellent schools. I intend to deliver on this priority. This proposal is the key to achieving the objectives set out in the plan. Moving forwards on Better Schools - A Better Tomorrow reflects our responsibility and total commitment to making a difference in North East Lincolnshire. I look forward to an early and positive response to our proposals.
