Imaginative play, bring out play props for all sorts of role play.
Creative, musical activities or artistic representation (e.g. chalk, large painting, water painting).
Building and construction on a large scale, dens etc.
Sandpit and/or water with gutters, pipes etc.
Discovery (e.g. mini beasts, weather watching, pulleys, finding out box).
Growing area.
Quiet area, to rest, read and think.
Large physical apparatus for balancing and climbing.
Small apparatus (e.g. bean bags and balls) to promote hand/eye co-ordination.
Tracks and pathways for pushing and pulling toys, bikes, prams, trailers etc.


Not all of these are necessary all of the time, all are desirable some of time.

It is best to buy or acquire resources that are flexible and can serve many purposes.

It is better to plan the permanent form of your outdoor area with flexibility in mind.

Vandalism may be a potential problem, in which case portable equipment and vandal proof storage will be required.
